Vauxhall PR Director Denis Chick has been recognised for his 52 years in the industry.
The Cardiff-born motoring enthusiast has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from his peers in the 2017 Newspress Awards announced on thursday 23March.
But in typical style, Denis was too busy to received the engraved trophy at the glittering London event because he was supporting Wales in ireland on the eve of its crucial world qualifier in Dublin. as Vauxhall are main sponsors of the home teams.
Chairman of thewesterngroup Robin Roberts was the first to shake his hand and congratulate Denis and said, “This is a thoroughly deserved, even overdue, award for a true professional I have known and respected for his work over four decades.
“He sets and maintains standards which younger PRs could look up to and which ensure Vauxhall is always in the news for the right reasons.”
Denis was one of the first industry PRs to support WGMW and the fledgling Welsh Motoring Writers group and appreciates the importance and role of regional media alongside the specialist magazines and national press.
Even when relaxing, Denis is to be found tinkering with one of his beloved single or double decker buses or pouring over magazine and web-pages to find model vehicles to add to his extensive collection, often with a Welsh interest.
He is currently masterminding the launch of the highly important Vauxhall Insignia while also dealing with on-going publicity and questions around the acquisition of Vauxhall by PSA Peugeot Citroen.
A lifetime of achievement has been properly recognised but there is no sign of Denis easing off the throttle of work.
Robin is the longest serving chairman of The Western Group. He's been vice chairman or chairman for over ten years and oversees the annual Western Group PR Driving Day each summer assisted by the group committee and supported by group members.
He contributes to a number of outlets in Wales and the UK, including the Driving Force editorial syndication agency feeding the biggest regional news and feature publishers in Britain.
Robin specialises in the Welsh automotive sector and motor related businesses with interests in Wales and publishes WheelsWithinWales.uk which covers news, features, trade and motor sport in Wales.
