Local students throw light on business opportunity
publication date: Aug 8, 2014
The IMI’s automotive themed Headlight competition, for secondary school students has been won by an all girl team from Tavistock College.
Through Headlight teaching resources the IMI aim to develop strong relationships between schools and the motor industry.
It also raises awareness of the exciting opportunities for young people within the sector and Headlight is sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover.
The competition challenges students to create a new car and design a marketing plan for its launch; including unique selling points, target markets and integration of existing or new technology.
Both the winning team and runners up from Tavistock College enjoyed a unique day investigating cutting edge design technology at Jaguar Land Rover’s Gaydon site as a reward for their efforts.
IMI CEO Steve Nash said, “Attracting more females into automotive careers is a hot topic in our sector at the moment. It was therefore great to see the enthusiasm and ingenuity shown by the all girl team from Tavistock.
“Headlight is designed to introduce the motor sector as a career option for young people. The result of this year’s competition clearly demonstrates that the motor industry can be just as rewarding and fulfilling to either gender. Hopefully the competition and prize day at Jaguar Land Rover will lead the participants into successful motor industry careers.”
