Did you know that two of our members are judges in two of the most prestigious awards panels?
Last week I was honoured to be invited to join the judging panel of the UK Car of the Year Awards.
A little bit of recognition in your chosen profession is always welcome. The fact that an organisation as prestigious as the UK Car of the Year Awards values my opinion is the icing on the cake.
Being a judge is a huge responsibility and I’m looking forward to getting down to work – first on helping to choose the category winners, then the overall winner.
Established in 2014, the UK Car of the Year Awards (UKCOTY) is a wholly independent set of awards, designed to highlight and advise on the best new cars on the market specifically for UK customers.
This year’s overall winner of UK Car of the Year 2025 will be announced on March 6, and it’s going to be a tough choice because it’s been a bumper year for new cars.
The overall winner of the UK Car of the Year 2024 was the Kia EV9. Also the victor in the Large Crossover category, the award recognised the big seven-seater SUV’s practicality and quality.
Of course, I’m not the only judge in the Western Group of Motoring Writers. Another of our members, Maxine Ashford, joined the judging panel of Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year in 2020.
Created in 2009, the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year is the only car awards group in the world comprised exclusively of women motoring journalists.
The unique WWCOTY award aims to recognise the best cars of the year and to give a voice to women in the automotive world.
Maxine is no stranger to success. Last December she won the hotly-contested Feature Writer of the Year at the Guild of Motoring Writers Awards.
