The annual Western Group PR driving day is shaping up well with more cars and more people having registered in the past couple of weeks.

There are still plenty more who have not yet registered or signalled their intentions, so if you are one of them, don’t forget the day is now only just over two weeks away. Details of how to register are in the left hand column or use the link in this sentence.

We have had one minor setback, the truck that we had hoped to bring for driving on the circuit will not be going ahead.

DAF Trucks had kindly volunteered to supply a truck and had sourced the unladen trailer that we needed for use on the track, but a recce at Castle Combe last week proved that it would not be possible to take the truck onto the track, so it will not be making an appearance after all. Thanks to Phil Moon at DAF for offering to help out and for all the work that his team had put in to trying to make it happen.

There will be plenty of other things to keep you all busy though. It looks as though our PR colleagues might get to drive a new car just before journalists – more details later. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for one particular supercar – could prove to be the hit of the day. We are also certain of a rare Porsche 911 special and a Rolls Royce Wraith. The Porsche will be on static display but the Wraith will be ready for the road.

Kim Henson has been busy assembling some classic cars, some of which will be available for driving. Tony Lewis has also persuaded his friend Jim Paull to bring along his Jaguar XK150 FHC and the car should be available for circuit driving. This would be a rare and unforgettable experience. If you have never driven a Jaguar XK, it’s a chance not to be missed.

The XK150 was the last of the line, replaced by the E-Type, and arguably the best. Kim is also assembling a classic car quiz since Nick Baldwin is unable to attend this year. As before, it will help to swell our charitable donations.

Keep those registrations rolling in. We’re hoping for a strong showing this year and the latest data from Alyson Marlow suggests that we are in with a good chance.

Tuesday 2 June, Castle Combe Circuit, Castle Combe, Chippenham, Wiltshire SN14 7EY. Be there!
